5 Job Interview Tips
The economy in the United States seems to be hitting everyone. This is particularly true for those searching for a job. What you probably already did is applying for a certain job through the internet. The next step will be to wait impatiently for a response from the company HR director. The competition is fierce. This is why it is so important, when you get a job interview, to be as prepared as possible for the minute you walk into the room to meet the interviewer or, in many cases, the panel of interviewers.
When you first receive the call that you are scheduled for an interview it is time to use the first tip. That is to begin preparing. Try to think of every possible question you might be asked for this specific job. Although you most likely will not know each one you will be able to prepare for the basics such as your skills, educational background, work history, and so forth. It will be better if you answer your questions in front of a mirror. This will help you to better see how you look to the interviewer. For example, do you make eye contact, do you move your hands about too much, are you looking around the room.
In preparing for the interview you will also want to research as much as you can about the employer. Are they local? How long have they been around? What are their major products? This will also help you to come up with a question, or more, that you will want to ask the employer. Finally, make certain you have everything in order for the interview such as copies of your resume, and other documents you plan to leave with the interviewer.
Next, you will want to look the role for the position for which you are applying. You want to look good but you do not want to stand out. For example, if you are applying for an executive position and you show up in jeans and a t-shirt this is definitely not the look you want to present to the interviewer. You should also minimize the amount of cologne or perfume you apply. You certainly do not want to cause the interviewer to have his/her allergies set off because of your fragrance.
The third tip is to be on time for the interview. You should make plans to arrive earlier than your scheduled appointment. You never know if you might get caught in traffic congestion or if you might arrive only to find the interview will be held at a different location then was originally planned. If you arrive late this is a very negative way to start the interview.
Fourth, you should try to remain calm during your interview. If you rehearsed in front of a mirror this will help a great deal. Everyone becomes a little nervous once the interview process begins. Even though you feel a burst of emotions try to remain as calm as possible while you exude an air of confidence.
The final tip is to be honest. If you lie during the interview, or if you lied on your resume this can be dangerous. Not only will you loose credibility but it can always lead to a future firing, providing you are hired for the position. It is important to be honest about your past also. If you lie about what has happened in your life the truth can easily be determined during a background check.
The interview is a big step toward landing the job you want. You improve your chances by being thoroughly prepared.
